Kaitlin + Drew

Coolest. Couple. Ever.

These two Tinder lovebirds became an official Mr. and Mrs. last October. “It was my second and last Tinder date!” Kaitlin says. “We clicked instantly and talked for four hours that night, and we’ve been best friends ever since. We have philosophical discussions daily, as well as binge on Netflix. I truly don’t think I could find a better match.”

Cutest fun fact: Kaitlin saved her doorbell video from that first date, so she has a recording of the first time they met! See what we mean? They are the coolest.

Kaitlin and Drew’s wedding was stylish, stunning and sentimental — and photographed so chicly by Alyssa Sorenson Photography. Not only is Kaitlin a DIY queen who designed and decorated her wedding with her twin sister, she also donned two wedding gowns worn by two women she loves.

The first dress and gold headband were her grandmother’s wedding outfit. (You can see a picture of her grandmother below!) “They were both handmade by my great grandmother, so that was super special,” Katilin says. “The length of the dress wasn’t altered at all. All we did was take it in a little bit, so it was close to 100 percent handmade from 1946!”

Her second dress belonged to her twin sister, who got married two years prior. And Kaitlin and Drew were married by her twin sister’s brother! “It was a close-knit wedding,” Katilin says.

Guests danced the night away, dined on ice cream sandwiches from The Penguin Brothers, and had an altogether delightful time. And then Kaitlin and Drew departed amidst sparklers and loved ones.

Come scroll with us, friends. And happy wedding, Kaitlin and Drew!

MAGAZINE MONDAY: ALICE CANNON + KELLON PARK // Nov. 22, 2017

For Alice Cannon and Kellon Parkinson, it was insta fate. Alice is a popular photographer (Alice Shoots People) here in Utah, and after Kellon messaged her with hopes of a meet cute (IRL, obviously), the two met up and quickly went from Likes to love.

DARLING DATE “We both loved our first date because of how pleasantly surprised we were at how fast we connected. He asked me out over Instagram. I receive a message that said, ‘So Alice, you don’t know me Haha, so I’ll keep this short. You’re beyond gorgeous, so I’m wondering out of alllll the messages you’re probably getting all the time, what are my chances of actually being able to take you out sometime?’ So he took me on a date! He is a total foodie, and he took me to Art City Trolley, then we went bowling at Provo Beach Resort, then back to his apartment to watch ‘Heavyweights’ because I mentioned it was my favorite movie.”

PERFECT PROPOSAL “I had just flown in from photographing a wedding in Alaska and then spending nine days in Hawaii, and when my plane landed in Idaho Falls, my name was called by a flight attendant and I was told to go to the customer service desk. As I stepped off the plane, a worker asked if I was Alice Cannon, and then he handed me a letter. It was a letter from Kellon. As I made my way through the airport, various people who I did not know were handing me letters from Kellon that I was to open and read. As I got my luggage and walked out of the airport, Kellon was waiting there for me. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.”

SPECIAL SONG “‘Say You Will.’ When we were dating, I remember telling Kellon that we had never danced, and I would love to slow dance with him. A few days later, as I walked him to his car, he asked if I had just a few more minutes. He pulled out his phone, started playing that sone, and we slow danced in the middle of the street.”

PICTURE THIS As a wedding photographer, Alice has attended her fair share of nuptials. So when it came time to plan her own, she knew exactly what she wanted. The result? A truly unique affair with vibrant colors, hanging pretzels, a showstopper paper chandelier, endless candles, and a hanging headboard with the Instagram message that stated it all. “Now we use that headboard for our bed, and it is really special to us,” Alice says. “For her gown, Alice had a custom-made fitted dress from Nouvelle Vie, as well as an over-sized tulle skirt from Fantasy Bridal she could take on and off. “I wanted the best of both worlds!” she says. For her bouquet, she had a mix of real and paper petals — courtesy of Bushel & A Peck Floral and The Lovely Ave. The majority of her vendors were close friends from the industry. “It was really special to have everyone a part of our wedding process,” she says.

Scroll through Alice’s incredible wedding photos by Jordi Jerae Photography, which include endless sessions in the coolest locations from Joshua Tree to the craters to the Salt Lake Temple to her reception at The White Shanty.

Great Scott(land)! Alec and Lindsey Olsen are something out of a fairy tale. The high school sweethearts got engaged at the McRae family castle in Scotland, which is the most photographed castle in the world. Lindsey is half Scottish, and her mom’s maiden name is McRae, so it was extra sweet and personal.

That Scottish magic continued in their wedding, with all the boys in the family wearing kilts. Thistles were imported from Scotland for the bouquet, cake and center pieces. And Lindsey’s oldest brother, Steven, played the bagpipes throughout the day.

They wed at Alec’s family cabin in the Utah mountains — and the wedding was full of sentimental touches. Alec’s mom gave him a pin to wear on the inside of his jacket with a photo of his late Grandmother. For her part, Lindsey wore her mother’s wedding veil from ’70s, and she wore Alec’s grandmother’s wedding and engagement band from the ’50s.

Congrats, Lindsey and Alec! Thanks for sharing your beautiful day with us.

P.S. Why yes, Lindsey’s two oldest brothers did come bounding out of the cabin in their kilts with massive horse heads on and start dancing Gangnam Style. Who wouldn’t? 🙂

Caitlin + Thomas

It’s Magazine Monday, friends! Here’s a closer look at Caitlin and Thomas’ stunning soiree from our glossy pages.

Sept. 16, 2017

Caitlin Updike wed Thomas Joyce with a divine destination celebration. The bride is from Manhattan Beach; the groom is from St. Louis. And they brought their nearest and dearest to Park City to start their marriage off with an unforgettable night of dinner, dancing and I dos.

PERFECT PROPOSAL “On a Friday summer night at Lake Winnipesaukee, Thomas and I set out for a sunset boat cruise. This was a common ritual when we were spending time at the lake — to enjoy the sun going down on the water with frosty beverages in hand. I had no idea this trip would be any different, until Thomas dropped to his knee and asked me to marry him! And after some tears and hugging (and a proper ring inspection!), Thomas broke out some champagne his brother stashed on the boat before we left. The night only got more special when we came home to a beautifully decorated dock, complete with my parents who had made the surprise trip from California to join in the celebration!”

SOMETHING OLD “My veil. A family friend took lace from my first communion dress, dyed it in tea to match the color, and sewed it to the edge of my veil. It was a very special ‘something old.'”

SPECIAL SONGS “Our wedding song was ‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson. I walked down the aisle to ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles. Our bridal party walked down the aisle to ‘May I Have This Dance’ by Florence and the Lights. I choose that last one after falling in love with the song at my bachelorette party when we saw it performed live at Lollapalooza.”

FAVORITE IMAGE “Walking down the aisle right after we got married. Thomas stopped to kiss his mom and I stopped to kiss my dad. The first time I saw this picture from Alixann Loosle Photography I teared up. It is such a beautiful image of our union and the love we both have for our families.”

PICTURE THIS The wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Joyce was a night of delectable details. The exquisite menu from Culinary Crafts included salads, corn on the cob, mini tacos, an onsite pig roast, and endless bread. “To celebrate that we could finally eat carbs again, we had bread pairings with every course!” Caitlin says. The decor had serious flower power. A phenomenal garland graced the head table and gorgeous watercolor flowers donned paper details, signage, and the Vans the bride and bridesmaids wore on their feet during the reception. Speaking of shoes, guests kicked off their heels, put on provided flip-flops, and shimmied the night away. “There was an unexpected moment when Thomas and I were hugging in the corner of the dance floor. When we let go, we saw a small group of friends raising their glasses. Before we knew it, half the dance floor had stopped dancing and raised their glasses. It was a moment filled with so much love that it felt like a dream the next day.”

Classic. Beautiful. Elegant. Timeless.

This first look and formal session of Mackenzie and Blake is beyond stunning and sweet. Their looks of love (and Blake’s first-look giddiness!) are happiness personified.

We’re dying over the lace sleeves on Mackenzie’s Pritchett Bridal gown, and we especially adore the scalloped lace at the hem.

We’ll never tire of bridal sessions at the Utah State Capitol and Salt Lake Temple, and these images from Whitney Hunt Photography are precisely why.

“Love Grows.”

That was the theme of Brenna and Sam Willis’ wedding this past February — and it seriously suits them. Every image is bursting with that happy-go-lucky, high-in-the-sky love.

For reals, though. These two can’t stop smiling, laughing, jumping and celebrating. We’re high-key obsessed with them.

Our favorite details and moments? Brenna’s sleek and stunning Fantasy Bridal gown. That gorgeous geometric cake from Granite Bakery. The fun-filled and beautiful images by Sloan Olivia Photography. And that movie-worthy snow and sparkler exit.

Oh, and they played “The Shoe Game”! What’s The Shoe Game, you ask? It’s where the bride and groom sit back-to-back (so you can’t see each other!), each holding one groom shoe and one bride shoe. The couple is asked a series of questions. Things like: “Who is the pickiest eater?” or “Who is happier in the morning?” And then the bride and groom answer the questions by raising up the corresponding shoe! It’s a real crowd pleaser, folks! The literal newlywed game! So try this reception fun on for size.

Ready for some growth? Plant yourself down and start scrolling the love.

Proposal Story: Meg + Travis

Yes to the YES.

UVB shared their engagement session yesterday, and now we have a peek into the proposal of when Travis Bloomfield asked Meg Skalla to marry him.

And y’all? It’s EVERYTHING. Love notes! Nails done! Boat rides! Floating lanterns! Flower petals! Waffles! The ring! Hiding families!

Gah! They’re so in love. And we’re so in love with them.

Here’s the story in Meg’s words … (P.S. Make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom of the post to see the amazing video of the proposal!)

“Travis and I met about two years ago through some mutual friends. Instantly I had a huge crush on him, but nothing came of it until the summer of 2018. Over that summer, we started talking while he was home in Idaho. We bonded over Rice Krispie treats, and we made plans to make them together one day. School started, and I anticipated him asking me out. I waited and waited, but he never asked!

The end of September rolled around and he finally asked me out! On Sept. 29, 2018, we went on our first date. We put lanterns together, colored on them and sent them off onto Utah lake! After, we decided to go to Waffle Love (our fave place to go now!). While on the date, my brain was racing with all the dating tips my sisters had given me. Ha! Clearly they worked because while we were on the date, he asked me on a second date to go on a canyon drive the next day. From there on out, we went on a date, studied together, or hung out almost every day. Right away I knew Travis had a big heart. I was drawn to his kindness and the way he treated me. No one has ever made me feel the way he does. He is perfect. (I love you Trav!!) We have an endless amount of fun memories together and I can’t wait to create more with him for the rest of our lives.

The week of the proposal, I had this nagging feeling that he was going to propose on Friday. I didn’t have any reason to think that. I just knew! Friday rolled around, and my heart sank. I had a competition with my dancers and would be busy all day. There was no way he was going to propose. At the end of the competition, my friend Shaundee asked me to help her grab a few things from her car. As we walked, I told her how sad I was that it wasn’t going to happen today. She stopped me as we got outside and said, ‘Hey so.. actually…..’ and handed me my first envelope. I WAS DYING! So caught off guard and sooo happy! In that moment I knew exactly what was happening.

Inside the first envelope were two pieces of paper.

The first one said, “The Adventures of Meg & Travis From September 29th 2018 to…” and had a collage of some of the pictures we have together! The other note said that my driver would pick me up at 4:15 and we would be getting our nails done with a few people I might know.

My sister, Amy, picked me up and we went to get our nails done with our two other sisters and my mom. We had the best time! I’ve never seen my sisters so happy and excited for me. They adore Travis!

After our nails were complete, my mom handed me the next note, a Rachel Parcell Collection dress, and beautiful earrings. The note had instructions to stop at Waffle Love, and then drive to his sister Kara’s home where I would get ready.

Travis’s mom, brother-in-law, and nephews were there to greet me and give me my shoes to complete my outfit. Amy helped me get all ready to go, and then his mom handed me the final note!

We headed to the Sequoias venue where Travis was waiting for me. As I walked up to him, I had a million butterflies. Seeing him standing there with a beautiful bouquet of pink garden roses, smiling, made me the happiest girl in the world. From there, he led me down the path to a dock filled with candles and flower petals. He helped me into the boat and we headed for the center of the pond. While on the boat, we re-created our first date. We drew on paper lanterns and floated them into the water. (I was supposed to bring the Waffle Love with me, but I was so excited to see him I totally left it in the car!) We talked about our first date, how much we love each other and how excited we are for our future together. It was so sweet and thoughtful. Everything was perfect. HE IS PERFECT! We then went back to the dock, carefully stepped off the boat, and hugged each other. He told me how much he loves me, got down on one knee and said, ‘Megan Leigh Skalla, will you marry me?’ Easiest decision I have ever made. I said yes! I’ve never been so happy and felt so complete.

Our family then came out to congratulate us (they watched the whole thing from inside!). We took some photos and went to my sister Rachel’s home for dinner with both of our families. It was so special to have the people we love most there to celebrate with us. It was the perfect ending to an amazing night. Travis created a proposal I will never forget. It was more than anything I have ever dreamed of! He is the man I have been waiting for, and he makes me so happy. I LOVE YOU TRAVIS!”

And here’s what Travis had to say:

“Throughout the day, everyone kept asking me if I was nervous, but I wasn’t! I was just enjoying it the whole time. Her sisters, my family, and others all pitched in with different ideas and helped out! It was super fun to plan it all and create a moment I knew would make Meg really happy. That was what was most important to me. My jaw started hurting because I couldn’t stop smiling all day long! Our moment was perfect. I love you so much, Meg!”

It’s Magazine Monday! And today we’re swept away by Brooklyn Fullmer and Cory Calvert’s wedding from our glossy pages! Enjoy a closer look at this celebration filled with love, dancing and tacos!

DANCING ON AIR // August 7, 2018

Cory and I met through social media. I was in L.A. dancing professionally, so the timing wasn’t right, but then in February of 2017 we had our first date. I thought Cory was handsome, tall, kind and had the best smile. I loved that he opened my door and still does to this day. Cory’s first impression of me was that I was talented and beautiful but also kind and humble, too

Cory gave me a dream proposal. He was “out of town” and I was going to a photo shoot with my sister Kenna. The photo shoot involved a helicopter ride to an exclusive spot on top of a mountain. As we got closer to landing, I noticed someone standing on the peak. Then I realized it was Cory with a bouquet of roses ready to propose. Cory is deathly afraid of heights, so he conquered his fear that day. When I got out of the helicopter, I started running to Cory and completely fell to my face through three feet of snow. This is so classic for me. I pulled myself together, said yes and we cruised off into the pink sky back to the airport where our families were waiting.

Because I have been dancing since I was 6, I’ve had hundreds of costumes and dresses. I wanted something unique for my wedding day. Pritchétt Bridal shipped the dress of my dreams from Barcelona. I saw one black-and-white photo of it and knew it was the one. It was a risk to choose it without seeing it in person, but it was the best risk I have ever taken. The bodice was fitted but the sleeves had movement. It was so fun to wear.

One of the most memorable parts of the big day was dancing for Cory with my best friends! Most of them are on “Dancing With The Stars” or “So You Think You Can Dance” and we did one 45-minute rehearsal three months before the wedding. Somehow we pulled it off. I don’t know who loved it more — Cory, or me and my girls!

PICTURE PERFECT All of Brooklyn’s married friends gave her the same advice: Make sure you eat the food at your wedding! Brooklyn and Cory enjoyed amazing street tacos before they spent the night greeting guests at their perfectly-lit Thanksgiving Point reception. One of Brooklyn’s signature details was the personalized denim jacket that read “Mrs. Calvert.” Cory’s suit had a personal touch, too, with the couple’s name and wedding date stitched inside his suit jacket.

Zoi + Grant

It’s Magazine Monday, friends! And today we’re sharing a closer look at the wedding of Zoi and Grant — straight from our glossy pages. We love this delightful couple, whose mutual love of music inspired an epic dance party!

I met Grant the night he came home from his LDS mission. His parents threw a welcome home party for him, and I ended up there through some mutual friends. He was a little awkward — but it was a cute awkward. We started dating and bonded over our love of music. One of my favorite dates was going to Sundance’s Bluebird Cafe concert series.

When it came time to propose, we went up Provo Canyon to our stargazing spot. Grant told me that his cousins, who are photographers, needed some models for a project so they met us there to take photos. Halfway through the “photo shoot,” Grant got down on one knee and proposed. I did not see it coming!

My mom was incredible and helped me plan my entire wedding. My sisters helped me pick out my dress and their bridesmaid dresses. I loved the intricate lace patterns in my dress. It’s not the typical lace you see on a wedding dress, which I loved.

We got married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and had our reception in Grant’s parents’ backyard. I always wanted to have an outdoor reception, and I loved the beautiful tent we had set up. We had it lit up inside and it was magical.

The best part of the day was marrying the love of my life for time and all eternity. We have started our newlywed life together in Orem. Grant goes to University of Utah and works at Dental Intel while I work as an esthetician. Life is good.

PICTURE PERFECT Grant and Zoi’s October 4th wedding started off with their sealing at the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Lush greenery gave the florals a foraged flair. How do you elevate a classic ice cream sandwich? Make it with a macaron! Chefs Marco and Aubrey Niccoli took backyard fare to new heights. Zoi’s bouquet is proof that sometimes, more is more. Finally, Grant and Zoi’s guests put that dance floor to work! Get it.

When it comes to Ashley and Alex Hill, feel the beat … feel the sweet … feel the love.

These two are beautiful, joyful, and downright delightful. From the sand dunes to the Salt Lake Temple to the Grand America, every image from Madison Elle Photography is divine.

The green and white florals by Every Blooming Thing are a vision. (That circular arch? Beyond!) Her long sleeve Bridal Center gown is an absolute dream. And Ashley and Alex’s cutting of that tiered wonder from Carrie’s Cakes? Smash-tastic.

Fun fact! The music had to be turned off by 9 p.m., so for the epic dance party, their DJ brought LED wireless headphones to stream music to all of the guests! Smooth moves, Life of the Party DJ.

Happy scrolling! Happy grooving! And happy wedding, Ashley and Alex!

Amanda + Stetson

It’s Magazine Monday! And we’re thrilled to share a closer look at the wedding of Amanda and Stetson. These two won a wedding giveaway from these incredible local vendors, and we were honored to share their story on our glossy pages.

When Stetson and I first met, our interaction was brief, but we started following each other on social media. Years later, Stetson asked me out. He was goofy and fun, and we both felt comfortable right away.

Stetson knew I loved donuts, so for our first date he took me to try cronuts for the first time — couldn’t have gone better! We dated for over a year and then he proposed to me on vacation in San Diego. He took me to the edge of the cliffs to look out over the water. I worried about slipping on the rocks, but then he got down on one knee to propose — the danger was worth the risk after all.

After we got engaged, we heard about a wedding giveaway from Pritchétt Bridal on Instagram and we entered thinking it was a shot in the dark. When we found out we won, we were in shock. We couldn’t believe something so lucky would happen to us!

Because I am a donut connoisseur, I knew I had to have them at my wedding. I had a vision of exactly how I wanted them to be displayed and my cousin custom-built it for our special day. We served maple bars and square glazed donuts from Lehi Bakery. They are the best around.

I was obsessed with my wedding dress! I found it at Pritchétt Bridal (they are miracle workers) and my favorite part is the train.

It was fun to include all of our family in the wedding. The speeches our dads gave were unforgettable! My dad made it funny and had props, and I loved seeing Stetson and his dad hug after his speech. Because Stetson’s mom passed away a few years ago, he danced with his sisters and it was so special. I will never forget coming out of the temple and seeing everyone we love cheering.

PICTURE PERFECT The best weddings are those with perfectly personal details. Stetson’s custom-made suit had a wild print — and he had the wedding date stitched inside. #welldonestetson The couple’s cake was tailor-made, too. While it served up classic style on the outside, inside were three different flavors: white chocolate raspberry, confetti and peanut butter chocolate. “They were all so good, it was hard to decide,” Amanda says. Another highlight was The Vista at Cedar Hills’ to-die-for view. And just look at that elegant and wistful drapery from 360 Canopy! Magic.

From the red rocks to The White Shanty, Ale and Jim radiate light, love and laughter.

Her flowers are lush and bright (that hanging floral installation is a dream!). Her Alta Moda Bridal gown is a long-sleeve vision (that lace!). The White Shanty is both chic and charming (those barn doors!). The donut wall is a delicious touch. The photography by Katelyn Church is intimate and lovely. And their celebration is just a whole lot of happy.

And how does it end? With bubbles, sparklers and smooches, of course.

Come scroll with us. And happy marriage, Ale and Jim!
