Twist of Fate

You guessed it, today is Magazine Monday! Here’s a closer look at Cassie and Blake’s whimsical backyard wedding — featured in our 2017 magazine.

Cassie Christensen + Blake Laker // August 11, 2016

For Cassie Christensen and Blake Laker, it was love at first fate. They both grew up in Draper and attended the same middle school and then rival high schools. But it wasn’t until the two lovebirds met in a physical science class at BYU that their chemistry ignited. Cassie thought Blake seemed nice and friendly, while Blake thought Cassie was “too cute for him.”

A friendship emerged, and true love quickly followed. Blake took Cassie on an adorable date that involved baby pictures and meeting his parents. He was worried about it being too much for a first date, but Cassie was smitten.

A few months later they were engaged — and the proposal was perfection. Blake decorated an entire cabin with twinkling lights, candles and hundreds of rose petals. On the table he spelled out “Marry Me” in rose petals.

Her answer? Y-E-S.

When it came to wedding planning, Cassie’s dress was a dreamy decision. She loved the very first gown she tried on! The food was just as easy to plan because Cassie’s dad owns a catering company and IceBerg restaurants throughout Utah. With plenty of help from friends and family, Cassie’s wedding day was even more perfect than she imagined.

GET THE PICTURE Wedding planning and Cassie Christensen were meant to be. She chose a venue that gave her the outdoor vibe she was after, and then she added a gorgeous, eclectic backdrop made from wood planks and draped with flowing floral garland. Cassie chose a color palette of cream, light pink, gold and shades of brilliant blue that were incorporated into her bevy of bridesmaids.

It’s Magazine Monday! And what a gorgeous one it is. Here’s a closer look at Melanie and Greg’s wowza wedding from our glossy pages. And spoiler alert! Her catering, cake, flowers and photography are TO DIE FOR.

Melanie + Greg // May 14, 2016

Melanie Ferguson is an artist, and her work is inspired by growing up in the beautiful landscapes of Utah. So it’s only fitting that she married Greg Ferguson in the rustic and romantic setting of Maple Ridge Ranches in Oakley. The couple met through a mutual friend, and Greg proposed to Melanie on California’s Manhattan Beach at sunset. Melanie started the day getting ready with her bridesmaids — daughters Nichole and Carly. And she stayed true to her roots with her wedding day shoe choice: cowboy boots. “It fit with our ranch style wedding theme and I loved not having to wear heels I couldn’t walk in,” Melanie says. Then it was time for the wedding ceremony performed by pastor Anita Gordon. The couple’s friends and family looked on with happiness and well wishes — including Melanie and Greg’s pup Joey, a two-year-old Golden Retriever. Then the couple did a sand ceremony that signified the blending of their lives and families. After dining on truly glorious cuisine from Culinary Crafts (gourmet salmon and waffles, Chinese stir fry, beef tri tip with chimichurri), they danced the night away. “The dancing was a riot,” Melanie says. “Everyone dances at my house even if you don’t think you can dance that well.”

GET THE PICTURE Melanie enlisted an all-star team to make her wedding dreams come to life: Kristina Curtis behind the camera, Mary Crafts of Culinary Crafts for cuisine and wedding planning, and Roots Flowers adorning the aisle with the prettiest of petals. “They were all so professional and cared about every detail,” Melanie says. In addition to the main dishes served, Greg and Melanie’s wedding day fare included a smattering of small bites to snack on as well as a candy bar station for the kids. Turquoise flower boxes (that matched Melanie’s boots) filled to the brim with spring blooms made for stunning centerpieces. And that floral arch? Next level. Melanie’s wedding invitations, ordered on Etsy, came all the way from Poland. “My postmaster got a kick out of that!” Melanie says.

And we’re back with the best part of Mondays — Magazine Mondays! Today we’re sharing a closer look into our cover bride Abby’s gorgeous wedding from our glossy pages. Scroll (and squee) at will …

August 5, 2016 // Abby + Alex

When Provo’s Abby Payton met Alex Larsen, she was preparing to serve an LDS mission — but a game of sardines changed her plans. After eating at Bombay House with a group of friends, Alex and Abby ended up squished in a cabinet for a solid half hour. “That’s when I started to crush on him,” Abby says. Abby loves Alex’s drive and determination, and one of her favorite dates was when they went to Utah Lake and released Chinese lanterns with their goals written on them. The couple’s proposal also happened at the lake where Alex set the mood with tiki torches, candles, and family and friends hiding in the trees. Abby enlisted Jana Lynn Kofford from The Flower Affair to plan her wedding. “I feel so lucky I had Jana every step of the way,” Abby says. The big day included the sealing at the Payson LDS temple, a ring ceremony, dinner and a dreamy reception at a park just across the street from where Alex grew up in Pleasant Grove. “It was surrounded by trees and a total hidden gem,” Abby says. Nothing could rain on Abby and Alex’s parade — not even rain. “I downloaded every weather app in the app store because I was so stressed it might rain,” Abby says. “It only rained for 25 minutes during the ring ceremony, and then the rest of the evening was perfect weather.”

GET THE PICTURE Abby and Alex’s August nuptials had it all — from good grub (Marley’s sliders and fries) to delightful decor (floral table runners) to decked out groomsmen and bridesmaids. Abby’s dress? Amazing lace, people! When Abby first slipped on her Alta Moda gown, she thought she wasn’t going to love it. But as soon as they pulled it tight, she was in love. Abby picked excellent vendors and then let them do their thang, while adding personal touches like her own collection of turquoise rings. The couple’s first dance to “Can’t Help Falling in Love” was one of Abby’s favorite moments. After dancing the night away and cutting that #amaze wedding cake, Abby and Alex exited with a sparkler send-off.

It’s Magazine Monday! Here’s a closer looks at these gorgeous garden nuptials from our gorgeous glossy pages.

Amanda + Sam // September 16, 2016

Amanda Fisher met Sam Miller in the grocery store of all places, where he helped Amanda reach something on the top shelf. Being 6’ 7’’ has its benefits! Little did they know, that tall order was the beginning of true love.

Amanda and Sam dated for two years and bonded over their love of Disneyland and Rockwell Ice Cream. When the time came for Sam to propose, he invited Amanda to go stargazing in Hobble Creek Canyon. When they got there, he had a romantic setup prepared and he dropped to one knee.

After the proposal, Amanda and her mom got to work planning the big day. Amanda, who grew up in Draper, chose The Gardens at Dry Creek for its abundance of tall trees and twinkling lights. And she picked Rockwell Ice Cream Co. to cater their reception — making sure her husband’s favorite flavor “The Snicker to My Doodle” was served.

The wedding festivities started with a rehearsal dinner in the evening, followed by a sealing the next morning at the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After an afternoon break and a ring ceremony, the reception began and the dance floor went nuts.

“I was so worried it was going to be one of those weddings where everyone was just standing around, but boy was I wrong,” Amanda says. “We had a blast dancing the night away with friends and family. My mom was showing everyone up!”

GET THE PICTURE Amanda and Sam’s outdoor reception had it all: glowing lanterns, barn tables, flowers galore and a VW bus photo booth. Amanda loved all of her vendors but says Mandy from The Potted Pansy was her MVP. “She went above and beyond what we expected and helped create my entire vision for the wedding.” Even Amanda’s signage was beautiful! She won the menu sign from an Instagram giveaway and then used it as inspiration to craft the rest of the signage on her own. She cut, sanded, stained and lettered her heart out. But that wasn’t the only hand-crafted decor piece. Sam’s grandfather created the wooden arch the couple stood under for the ring ceremony, and Amanda’s grandfather performed the ceremony. Today the arch is sitting pretty in Amanda and Sam’s Bluffdale backyard where it is affectionately called the “Grandpa Arch.”

Hannah + Parker // June 28, 2016

Hannah and Parker’s mountain nuptials radiated natural elegance and quaint charm.

Nestled within a grove of towering aspens and lively wildflowers, they exchanged vows beneath a leafy wooden arch in front of close family and friends.

They partied on a grassy lawn beside a charming barn and beneath bistro lights. Freshly iced cakes were trimmed with bay leaves. Dreamy drapes and flower-filled bottles abounded. And the smell of wood-fired pizzas filled the air.

Indulge your curiosity and take a look at Hannah’s Most Marry Moments.

Divine Decor “The wood arch for our ceremony. Parker made it out of fallen trees from the pasture he kept his horses in at the time.”

Incredible Image That’s so hard since I love them all! I would probably say the picture of Parker and me holding hands, smiling like fools, right at the end of the aisle after the ceremony because it’s candid and we both just look so happy! That’s probably the happiest I’ve ever felt in my whole life.”

Darling Date “When I first met and started dating Parker back in 2014, he was living in Montana, working as a snowmobile tour guide in Yellowstone. I got to drive up there and see him for a weekend and he took me on a private little tour of the park. It was March, so it was freezing, but we ended up spotting a pack of wolves and I just remember loving hanging out with him in his element. To be honest, though, I pretty much fell in love with him on our first date at Costa Vida.”

Perfect Proposal We both love being outside whenever we can, so he always planned on proposing on one of our adventures in the mountains. Unfortunately, the day he picked was super snowy, so he wasn’t sure how he would pull it off. We ended up driving through the storm up to Strawberry Reservoir and then we trudged through almost waist deep snow to get to a little hill that looked out over the water. He completely shocked me when he knelt down (and almost disappeared into the snow), pulled the ring out of his pocket, and asked me to marry him. I almost lost a couple toes, but it was perfect.”

Most Memorable Moment “My husband says, “When we showed up half an hour late to our reception.” For me, it was having my dad walk me down the aisle to marry the best person I know.”

Chaz + NaTaya // October 21, 2016

Chaz and NaTaya’s wedding was as dreamy as they come — filled with wide open spaces and nostalgic details hidden in every corner.

Adorned with wilderness inspired decor, from an aspen arbor to tree stump centerpieces, this romantic wedding successfully whisked guests away into a wooded wonderland.

Leafy flowers. Intricate lace. Rustic venue. Happy hearts.

Beneath glittering lights and with adoring guests, they danced the night away.

Take a step into the woods with us as we get a closer look at NaTaya’s Most Marry Moments.

Alluring Accessory “The golden compass hanging above us as we were married. It was a family item and had a lot of sentimental value to us. We travel a ton and are in the wilderness a lot, so compasses were kind of a natural fit for us.”

Divine Decor  “It’s a tie. We used antlers as centerpieces from deer and elk he had bow hunted throughout his life. That was a sentimental touch. We also had logs as seats around fire pits outside. The logs were from trees that had fallen down around the area he had hunted as well. We wanted to feel like we were getting married in the woods.”

Sensational Seams “It was blue and not white. The company I bought it from worked with me on the color and hand died it. I wanted a mix of light blue and grey and they nailed it!”

Most Memorable Moment  “We had a secret ceremony in a mountain grove with our wedding party. We were nervous to say our vows in front of so many people and wanted to say them in nature where we are more in our element. It was up big cottonwood canyon by the Jordan pines camping ground.”

Hello Folks! We have another fabulous Magazine Monday for you! Today we are getting the inside look at Alexandria and Ethan’s summer nuptials, featured in our 2017 magazine. Feel free to take a peek at this enchanting evening…

Alexandria Pugh + Ethan Evans // June 10, 2016

Highland’s Alexandria Pugh met her husband, Ethan Evans, through mutual friends and later bonded on a “snowshoeing trip gone wrong.” But their love story is oh-so-right. After a year and a half of dating, Ethan proposed after an afternoon of zip lining at Sundance and dinner in Park City. On the way home, Ethan, who is from Logan, suggested a “detour” that led them to a bridge covered in lights, flowers and a giant “A&E” for Alex and Ethan. The couple’s song was playing and he pulled her in for a slow dance before popping the question.

The romantic proposal was followed by wedding planning with her mom at her side. The only trick? Finding the perfect venue. After searching high and low, Alex and her mom decided to host their reception at a friend’s private residence in Orem. Alex loved all the different seating areas, and she added lighting overhead and floating paper lanterns in the pool to set the mood.

“Once we figured out a venue, everything else fell into place,” Alex says.

Alex and Ethan were married at the Salt Lake LDS Temple and their reception was held later that night. The live band and delicious pizza and gelato gave the evening a relaxed vibe that made guests want to linger.

“I was so pleased that people came, stayed and had a great time,” Alex says.

GET THE PICTURE Alex’s gown from The Perfect Dress was love at first sight. “I explained what I was looking for and the first dress they pulled was the one I bought.” Then Alex took that gorgeous gown of hers to the mouth of Parley’s Canyon where her photographer, Alixann Loosle, took magical bridal photos. “Alixann finds the most random places to take photos that end up being absolutely beautiful,” Alex says. For the bride’s wedding day locks, she kept things beautifully natural with loose curls. “I didn’t want something so fancy I couldn’t move my head or that I had to be careful with,” Alex explains. “I just wanted something pretty and simplistic.” Mission accomplished.

Hey, hey it’s the weekend! And there’s no better way to start partying than to scroll through this pretty session with these pretty people.

Jeff and McCall met on Tinder.

“I still remember his pick up line: ‘On a scale of one to America, how free are you tonight?’ I thought he was the biggest cheeseball, but I still went on a date with him. I was surprised how well we hit it off on our first date and was devastated to find out he was going to school in Cedar City, which was three hours away. He asked me out the next day before he left for school. I never thought I’d hear from him again, but he called me everyday the next week. We got to know each other over phone calls and seeing each other every other weekend. The rest is history. After 21 months of long distance dating, we’re sealing the deal and couldn’t be happier about it!”

We love McCall’s gown. We love the red rocks. We love the photography. And we love the love.

Annie + Michael  // August 13, 2016

These native Californians escaped to the Utah mountains for their summer nuptials, and we’re so glad they came.

Greenery was plentiful. Blush accents were weaved throughout (from the bride’s bouquet to the chic bridesmaid dresses). And rose-filled bottles and glass light fixtures dangled from the ceiling, adding an intimate mood to this enchanting mountain soirée.

Annie and Michael embody wholehearted love. And we are wholeheartedly in love with this wedding!

Let’s take a peek at Annie’s Most Marry Moments.

Alluring Accessory “My borrowed best friend’s veil. It was special for me to wear that.”

Incredible Image “There is a photo of Mike and I during our first dance that I love! It just captures all of the love in the room perfectly — the love between Mike and I, and then in the angle you can see all of our best friends, family and the gorgeous decorations in the background.”

Perfect Proposal “Perfect it was. He called my boss and got me the day off for a surprise trip to Napa on my birthday, where we wine tasted at the best wineries. At the end of the day, he proposed in our hotel. When we went to dinner to celebrate, I was shocked to see a table with my best friends there to join the celebration.”

Vowza Venue “The beautiful seclusion. We are from San Francisco, and Sundance was the perfect place to bring all of our city-based friends and family. There was almost no cell reception. We loved that our usually very ‘connected’ group didn’t even notice the lack of wifi because they were so distracted by the natural beauty Sundance offers.”

Most Memorable Moment “Our peanut butter and jelly unity sandwich — 100 percent. You’ve heard of the blending of sands or the candle lighting ceremony, Mike and I built a snack of love and shared it. The group couldn’t stop crying and laughing because it was hilarious and sweet at the same time.”
