Honey-Do List

0
0

The days are numbered, honey — hitch yourself to this life-altaring list of 50 to-dos before the ‘I do.’

1. Celebrate your fate and set a date.

2. The Mrs. has a nice ring to it. Grab your left-hand man and shop for that permanent sparkle.

3. Compile names and addresses.

4. For the love of money, make a budget.

5. Scout locations for the ceremony, reception, rehearsal dinner and/or wedding luncheon.

6. Determine who will officiate the ceremony.

7. Find out the requirements for a marriage license. Visit www.utahcounty.gov for info!

8. Determine your wedding theme and style. If you theme it, they will come.

9. Pick your professionals: wedding planner, photographer, videographer, gown shop, caterer, florist, cake designer, musician, decorator, paper suite designer.

10. Most wedding planners can cater to any budget. Strongly consider hiring an event planner to invigorate your planning and relieve you of hassles and headaches.

11. Before you pick your photographer, book yourself a “meet cute” and make sure your personalities click.

12. Plan your photo schedule with your photographer and videographer — engagements/bridals/wedding schedule. And give them a list of must-have shots.

13. For your bridals, don’t forget to coordinate with your gown shop, florist and hair/makeup stylist. Naturally, you’ll need to wear more makeup than usual at all of your shoots.

14. Shop to your heart’s content for your wedding gown — start with page 50 of this magazine and end in real, live local bridal stores. When shopping for your dress, bring a small, select group of gals you trust. Too many opinions does not a joyful shopping experience make.

15. Take risks when you’re trying on gowns. Try on unexpected silhouettes — you’ll be surprised at which seams make you squeal.

16. FYI: Forgetting jewelry and shoes makes us sad.  :(

17. Select and reserve men’s attire. (His clothes matter, too!)

18. Pick your wedding party with your hubby-to-be and then think through wardrobe for your best girls and guys.

19. Have both mothers coordinate and select their dresses. P.S. They don’t need to match.

20. Be the taste of the town! Talk to your caterer and see how the cuisine can contribute to the overall theme/feel of your nuptials.

21. Need a piece-of-cake task? Taste test those future layers!

22. Think bouquets and beyond! Work with your florist to come up with creative ways to use flowers throughout your reception.

23. Pick out your wedding favors — and order them early to ensure destination date.

24. Purchase gifts for attendants and groom.

25. Start addressing invitations with your honey. If his handwriting is “bless his heart,” put him on the stamp brigade!

26. Start any laser hair removal treatments. Spa Trouve, here you come!

27. We know, we know. Premarital exams aren’t glam. But they are a priority. Vow to make your appointment — and make it early. (If you’re looking for a new doctor, check out the practices in our preferred vendor tab.)

28. Get your paperwork on by adding your name to each other’s insurance policies, medical plans, bank accounts, credit cards, etc. Fill out a change-of-address form online.

29. Create bridal registries in the hometowns of both families. And share the scanner! (Marriage is nothing if not compromise.)

30. Make a will. If you have both agreed to a prenuptial agreement, have it drawn up and signed.

31. Purchase all accessories — garter, ring pillow, toasting goblets, table place cards, etc.

32. Prepare seating arrangements and place cards for your luncheon, rehearsal or sit-down reception.

33. Send out wedding announcements.

34. Get your marriage license.

35. Manis and pedis are a must when it comes to primping for your day. We’re talking mental health, ladies.

36. Arrange a babysitter for children at the reception — and think up a fun activity or treat to keep those littles loving life.

37. Arrange to have your gifts moved to your home after the reception.

38. Come up with a wedding hashtag so all your guests’ photos will be in one place.

39. Give the musicians/DJ a list of music for the ceremony.

40. Have a final conversation with all professionals, confirming schedules and maps.

41. Make final payments and provide guest counts to vendors. Designate who will meet and help each vendor on the wedding day.

42. Designate the two witnesses for your ceremony.

43. Make sure the ushers are prepped and ready — including any special seating instructions.

44. Pick up wedding rings — make sure they fit!

45. Remind your groom to groom! (A haircut might be nice …)

46. Compile your wedding day “emergency kit” — makeup, hairspray, bobby pins, pantyhose, pain reliever, breath mints, etc.

47. Get beauty (and sanity) sleep before your big day! And no fainting allowed! Don’t forget to eat breakfast the morning of your wedding.

48. Don’t forget the marriage license! (For realsies. Don’t do it.)

49. Thank both sets of parents before you leave your reception and arrange to have flowers sent to them while you’re on your honeymoon. Sample note: “Words can’t express how grateful we are — so we thought we’d try flowers.”

50. Be marry.

For the love of all that is gorgeous. Where do we even begin?

We want to talk about her sleeves forever. We want to talk about that barrette in her hair. We want to talk about both of their perfect bridal locations — Utah Lake and the Provo City Center LDS Temple. We want to talk about this romantic and joyful photography. We want to talk about the way they look at each other. We want to talk about her sleeves some more. And while we’re at it, let’s talk about that beyond beautiful beading.

Talk about a great feature. Now go scroll these beauties!

The end.

Alie + Christopher // Fall 2015

It doesn’t get more enchanting than this. From their sun-soaked bridals in the woods to their dreamy elegant reception at La Caille, every detail and image is seriously swoon worthy. We love their combination of European, garden and mountain-edge elements. And we’re charmed by their neutral color scheme.

Scroll through the pretty above, and then read some of Alie’s Marry Moments below.

Let Them Eat Cake “My family’s heritage is Dutch. A Dutch wedding tradition is cutting cakes before the wedding so that guests can enjoy cake throughout the celebration. I had a cake bar consisting of five beautiful cakes as well as desserts from our caterer. Instead of stuffing people to the brim with cake after they had a full dinner and dessert, I liked that we had cake available all night long to anyone who wanted it. This little detail was also special because my Grandfather Albert Noorda happened to know Christopher’s Grandfather Glen Lloyd while they served a mission for our church (we are both Mormon) in Holland. In other words, they lived together in Holland almost 50 years ago. We had no idea until we were seriously dating!”

Daddy Daughter Dance “My dad’s parentswere big into dancing. In their honor, he wanted our dance to be taken seriously and really learn how to dance! A sweet lady on our street came over a few Sunday nights and taught us a few fancy moves and how to waltz. Not only was the dance traditional and choreographed, the song was Rainbow Connection by Kenny Loggins, which was the song my dad would sing to me when I was a baby and he would come home late from med school. The emcee made sure to mention that detail, which was sweet. It was really special on the big day to have something choreographed and meaningful for everyone to enjoy, and I think it helped my dad not to cry because he had to think about each step we were taking!”

Sip, Sip Hooray “Like I said, we are Mormon, so our wedding was totally dry. No alcohol! Regardless, Christopher and I are big beverage connoisseurs and wanted to have something everyone could sip on while they waited in our line or mingled with other guests. One of our favorite dates is getting gelato floats at a cafe in Salt Lake City, specifically grapefruit rosemary floats with olive oil gelato. After telling our coordinator at La Caille about this special treat, she arranged for us to meet with the amazing bartender at La Caille. He created a totally original mocktail for us! It was amazing, a sparkling grapefruit concoction with a sprig of fresh Rosemary grown right in La Caille’s own herb garden. We also served sparkling Italian lemonade (another favorite of ours) and a ‘Mountain Mai Tai,’ another original (virgin) creation from the La Caille bartender.”

We have a crush on these engagements. They are cute, gorgeous and fun — all wrapped up into one.

Read through bride Hannah’s cute love story below, and then scroll through every amazing image!

“So basically I’ve had a crush on him since I was 15, but he had no idea who I was until college (he was too cool for me back then). We officially met at the beach in Southern California over Memorial weekend, and I thought he was the goofiest and sweetest boy I’d ever met. We’ve been together ever since! About a year after we met, we were both living up in Utah and I was going home to Southern California for the weekend to see a friend who’d been living abroad for a few years. I flew home and was spending the weekend catching up with my girlfriend, but I was missing him back in Utah. My friend suggested going to watch the sunset at my favorite beach before dinner, and it just seemed like a normal night! All day Karch had been sending me pictures of him at work, so I obviously thought he was still in Utah. We walked out to the beach, and out at the end of the walkway, Karch was standing in the sand with flowers in his hands, crying. I ran all the way out and we both cried and he tried his hardest to say his cute little speech until he finally got down on one knee. I am the happiest girl in the world because of him.”

It’s Magazine Monday! RSVP to Ciera and Preston’s wedding — straight from our glossy pages.

Ciera + Preston // May 12, 2016

Ciera Frye and Preston Leavitt met while serving LDS missions in Washington. Once they shed the name tags, they dated long distance and met each other’s families in Nevada and Colorado. Eventually, they were reunited in Utah where they both attended UVU.

The lovebirds love doing all things outdoors. Ciera planned a picnic in Provo Canyon. Preston took advantage of Ciera’s plan with his own secret, engaging agenda. He proposed while on the picnic at Stewart Falls.

“I was shocked,” Ciera says. “Of course I was completely in love with him and said yes! Best decision I have ever made.”

With nature (and each other) in their hearts, the two planned a magical mountainside wedding. They chose the Stone Hill Lodge Estate in Midway and stayed at the resort with their guests. After being married at the Payson LDS Temple, the couple and their guests returned to the resort for delicious food, including local charcuterie and crown-topped cakes.

“It was a dream all day,” Ciera says.

The couple’s wedding day exit capped off the evening royally. Guests tossed dried lavender and held sparklers as Ciera and Preston drove off in a royal blue truck that had been restored by Preston’s grandfather.

GET THE PICTURE Ciera dreamed of an original Heidi Gibson ring for years. And like a true prince, Preson helped that dream come true. Heidi Gibson specializes in Art Deco rings, and Ciera’s ring, “The Original Gatsby,” was filled with diamonds and a peach morganite stone in the middle. True to the rustic theme, the delicious reception buffet was served on an antique wood table and the table setting incorporated lush florals, natural stone chargers and rustic bamboo bowls. And with a table that magnificent, the food had to be a work of art as well. (Enter Culinary Crafts!) Ciara’s favorite details? Flowers done by her mom. “It was so special to have my mom be the one to style and design my wedding flowers.” Ciara’s bouquet matched the mood of the day — a natural foraged look with an abundance of greens, olive branches, bay leaves, peonies, ranunculus, and Kind protea.

It’s Magazine Monday, friends! Enjoy a closer look at this gorgeous winter wedding from our 2017 glossy pages!

December 4, 2015 // Brit + Chase

Brit Andrus and Chase Allen’s wedding was a truly “happily ever after” tale. After dating for almost three years, Chase decided to pop the question at Sundance — one of the couple’s favorite spots. Chase, who is from Pleasant Grove, had a picnic setup and a photographer waiting in the wings (take note grooms, your bride-to-be wants this moment photographed!). “My heart completely burst,” Brit says. “I was lost in the moment.”

Brit, who is from Spanish Fork, is a fashion and lifestyle blogger, so she had a good idea of what vendors she wanted to help her bring her wedding day dreams to life. For the ring ceremony, dinner and reception, Brit chose The Manor at Riverwoods — a sentimental spot since the couple’s first date was across the street at La Jolla Groves.

One of Brit’s favorite moments of the day was walking down the aisle with her dad and 10 flower girls. “All the girls were holding up my train and pulling it as tight as they could,” she says. “My dress was riding up and I could hardly walk. Every single guest was laughing. It was so cute and hilarious!” The flower girls were showstoppers at the reception, too. “All evening long we saw these little puffs of tulle bouncing around and it made everyone smile,” Brit says.

Happily Ever Allen, indeed.

GET THE PICTURE Brit’s wedding is proof that winter is a magical time to get married. Her bridals boasted gorgeous snow-capped mountains, and for the big day, she kept the winter white theme going with elegant monochromatic florals. What’s more, she had a hot chocolate bar and a variety of wedding cakes: vanilla, chocolate and a gluten-free carrot (Brit is celiac). Guests were treated to a delicious dinner of chicken marsala from Copper Kettle. Yum’s the word!

It’s Magazine Monday, friends! Here’s a closer look at Bailey and AJ’s fabulous farm wedding — featured on our 2017 glossy pages!

Bailey Thompson + AJ Gubernick // May 12, 2016

Life is beautiful for Bailey Thompson and AJ Gubernick. Bailey, who is originally from Richfield, was set up on a blind date with AJ, who grew up in California. He arranged for the pair to bake lemon cookies, which was perfect because Bailey loves all things lemon and lime. “The date was so simple and fun,” Bailey says. “From that night on we continued to date until we were married a year later.”

Bailey had visited Italy just before she met AJ, and she used it as inspiration for her wedding. “I knew exactly the mood, theme and cuisine I wanted to recreate,” she says.

First things first, an Italian-inspired wedding needs incredible food, which is why Bailey chose Fiore food truck for the pizza and Culinary Crafts for the gelato. They stayed true to their lemon roots with lemon gelato and lemon cake.

The trendsetting couple was the first to hold their reception at Quiet Meadow Farm Orchard in picturesque Mapleton. Bailey’s favorite moment of the day was her first dance as Mrs. Gubernick. “In that moment, I was so overcome with love for AJ and for everyone who was there and made our day so special,” she says.

GET THE PICTURE Bailey and AJ’s wedding was filled with simple, yet breathtakingly beautiful touches. Although finding the venue was tough (“a lot of tears went into that decision,” Bailey says), everything paid off when they found the orchard at Quiet Meadow Farms. From wooden place cards to hanging bistro lights, every detail exuded elegance. Bailey loved the idea of a two-piece gown, and her beautiful dress was custom made by Leanne Marshall and incorporated French Alencon lace.

Hailey + Justin // July 8, 2016

Hailey and Justin’s wedding was as effervescent as it was elegant.

The greenery overflowed. Her gown sparkled. The photography was light and lush. Her colors were soft and stunning. And every image is full of happiness.

We’re in love. And it’s clear Hailey and Justin are, too.

Here are Hailey’s Most Marry Moments.

Stunning Shades “I always envisioned my wedding as being elegant with lots of delicate details. I loved the simplicity of having a mostly neutral/natural color scheme — champagne, sage, grey, and ivory. I’d always wanted to get married outdoors because nature can serve as a beautiful setting all on its own.”

Sentimental Favorite “My favorite detail was my great-grandmother’s necklace I wore. It was from the 1920s and went perfectly with my vintage-style dress! I wanted everything to be simple, but beautiful.”

Momentous Moment “Walking down the aisle and seeing Justin’s face. It’s cliche to say, but in that moment, everything else faded away, and it was just us, celebrating our love for each other.”

Sage Advice “Don’t get so caught up with stressing about every little detail, and don’t be afraid to ask for help! You don’t have to do all the planning alone. And if you feel overwhelmed, take a step back and remember the reason you’re planning this big event: to celebrate your love.”

Warms The Heart

Spring is in the middle of springing, but we can’t say goodbye to winter wedding sessions just yet.

And can you blame us? Look at this gorgeous bride with her gorgeous groom in her gorgeous long-sleeve gown on a gorgeous blanket of gorgeous snow.

But our favorite fun fact? Sydney took her husband-to-be with her to try on wedding gowns!

“I actually brought my fiancé, Chandler, to narrow down wedding dresses before I chose one,” she says. “I already had an idea of what I wanted since I worked at Gateway Bridal, but I wanted him to be part of the process. We narrowed it down to three (even though I knew it would be the Caymbria as soon as I tried it on!) and then I came back with our moms to make the final decision. He finally saw me in my dress during our first look after guessing for months that it was the one!”

Warms the heart.

This elopement at the Salt Flats is flat-out incredible.

It’s the stunning simplicity of a bride, a groom, their vows and one inspiring vista.

For her elopement, bride Eryn wanted a spot reminiscent of the ocean. She wanted an epic location that felt “light and whimsical.” (She sooooo got it.)

And these images from Tyler Rye? COME ON. Our jaws are permanently dropped.
